May 8, 2008 marked the 40th anniversary of the
Charlotte Track and Triathlon Club.
The club was organized in 1968 as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Track and Field Association, Inc., a NC non-profit corporation. In 1986 the name was changed to Charlotte Track Club. With the growing popularity of triathlons in the 1990s, the club’s name again was changed to Charlotte Track and Triathlon Club in 2000.Throughout its 40-year existence, the club continuously has remained active in promoting physical fitness in the Charlotte area through running and, more recently, triathlons (swimming, cycling and running). |

The club membership consists of runners, cyclists, swimmers, and triathletes having a wide range of skill levels and abilities.
There is no qualifying skill level for membership. Persons who are desirous of commencing a running or triathlon program are welcomed into the club.Some of the more popular events the club has sponsored have been the Tryon Street Mile in the 1970s and currently, the Charlotte Summer Track Series and the Summer Breeze 5K Run. Additionally, the club actively supports many other area road races and triathlons. |
